Karin Admiraal, Ed.D.
Hello! I would love to meet you and talk about how I might support you as you move toward your academic goals! My primary focus is graduate student success coaching, working with students pursuing master’s or doctoral degrees. I also coach high school and undergrad students.
I have decades of experience supporting student success at all levels. I’ve worked for universities both in the U.S. and overseas as a success coach, tutor, and academic advisor. I’ve also taught academic success strategies, first-year transition courses, composition, and literature at the college level. When I was working on my Ed.D., I noticed that students in graduate school face academic and noncognitive challenges, just like undergraduate students do.
Many smart, capable students hit speedbumps in their master’s or doctoral journey. There is the challenge of balancing academics with job demands and family responsibilities. There is the hurdle of jumping into graduate level reading, writing, and research – often after years of focusing on other priorities. And for many of us, there is a kind of creeping impostor syndrome – do we really belong in a grad program?
I know what it is like to complete a doctoral degree while balancing multiple demands. While I was working on my Ed.D., my husband and I moved from the midwestern U.S. to Japan and back (requiring a job change for me each time). We weathered COVID-19 upheaval, maintained relationships with friends and family on both sides of the ocean, and were active in our local church. Despite multiple priorities (and changing my research topic halfway through my lit review), I was able to finish my doctorate in 3 years and hear the sweet sound of my committee members calling me “Dr. Admiraal” after a successful defense.
I started The Well-Ordered Mind as a way to use my experiences – both work and personal – to help other students navigate their own academic and logistical challenges. We could all use more peace, order, and integration in our lives. If academic success coaching sounds like it might be helpful for you, set up a free consultation, and we can talk about what’s going on in your life and how I can help you on your academic journey!
